When can it help?
There are times when our usual ways of coping stop working. We might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck or exhausted. We might be going through a major life change, struggling in a relationship, questioning our direction in life or finding it difficult to understand why we feel the way we do. Or perhaps there isn’t one particular problem at all. We may simply feel curious about getting to know ourselves better.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You don’t need to have a diagnosis or be experiencing a crisis to seek support. Individual psychotherapy may be helpful in many instances, including if you are experiencing:
- Anxiety or persistent worry
- Stress or feeling overwhelmed
- Low mood or depression
- Burnout, emotional exhaustion or struggles with motivation
- Difficulties with self-esteem or self-confidence
- Relationship or family difficulties
- Major life transitions
- Feeling stuck or uncertain about the future
- Difficulties understanding or managing your emotions
- Repeating patterns that you would like to change
- Questions about identity, meaning or direction
- A desire for greater self-understanding and personal growth
Individual therapy can offer a space to make sense of what you’re experiencing and explore beneath the surface. Sometimes the hardest part is putting what you’re experiencing into words. At Empathy Inward, therapy is a collaborative process. There is no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out. We can start from wherever you are and together explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and consider how your past and present experiences may be connected. This helps develop a deeper understanding of yourself so that you can make choices that feel more meaningful and aligned with who you are.
What happens in individual therapy?
Our sessions are a confidential space for you to talk openly about whatever is on your mind. We might explore something that has happened recently, a relationship that is causing difficulties, emotions that feel hard to manage or patterns that have been present for a while.
There may be moments of insight and moments of uncertainty. Over time, therapy can help you develop greater awareness of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours and consider different ways of responding.
I offer private, one-to-one online psychotherapy sessions for adults. Sessions last approximately 50 minutes and take place through a video call. Online therapy can make it possible to access consistent support even when work, travel, relocation or other circumstances make attending therapy in person difficult. This can be particularly useful if you live internationally or have a lifestyle that involves frequent change.
Is individual therapy right for me?
There is no simple checklist that determines whether therapy is right for you.
If something in your life feels difficult, confusing, repetitive or emotionally demanding, it may be worth exploring. If you’re wondering whether therapy could be helpful, you’re welcome to get in touch and tell me a little about what brings you here.
Our first conversations can also help you decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
How often would I have therapy sessions?
The frequency of sessions can be discussed according to your needs and circumstances. We can explore what feels appropriate when we begin working together.
